Yoga awakens the body and spirit, allowing yogis to forecast oncoming weather, traffic patterns, and un-winning lottery numbers, like "four" and "peanut." Tune and tone your body with today's Groupon: for $49 you get 10 yoga classes at Capital Fitness on North Butler Street (a $150 value).
Students can practice a variety of different yoga classes inside the studio's new 4,000 square foot space, which promotes relaxation while providing tranquil views of Lake Mendota and downtown Madison. Currently, Capital Fitness offers more than 20 yoga classes weekly but is expanding its program to include 30 weekly classes beginning in January. Styles include power Vinyasa flow, alignment yoga, forrest yoga, power flow yoga, Hatha, Kundalini, and more. Like slideshows at a parent's house, classes last 45–90 minutes and are lead by certified instructors. Mats are provided at the yoga studio, but students can bring their own, purchase one at the fitness center, or craft one from woolly mammoth pelts. See the schedule for more information.
Parking near Capital Fitness comes with a fee Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. through 6:30 p.m., but is free before and after those times, and is also free on the weekends.
- One big positive are the classes, which are numerous and led by fun instructors who know their stuff. Also, personal TVs keep me doing cardio way longer than planned. –Sarah M., Yelp
- I have just joined Capital, and love the Yoga classes, I also just tried Pilates reformer classes, and enjoyed it. The club is clean and the staff is friendly. – Chloe J., Inside Pages
Snuggly situated within one of Madison’s largest health clubs, the Capital Fitness yoga studio offers a serene reprieve from the intense muscle maintenance occurring outside the studio. Here, guests find workouts that test both body and mind, where certified instructors tweak postures according to tradition and the abilities of each practitioner. Beginners build a firm foundation for practice in classes such as gentle flow or alignment yoga, which focuses on correct positioning and ends with an optional head massage to calm the mind and erase all memories of Cats Don’t Dance. Advanced study leads stretchers to kundalini classes, which combine deeper poses with breath work and meditation, while vinyasa flow yoga turns up the heat and the pace in a heated studio that promotes deeper stretches and increased energy.
Classes often incorporate soothing extras such as calming music, aromatherapy, and moisturizing drops for third eyes. Come summer time, the building opens its roof top studio to allow students to stretch their stuff in the fresh air, surrounded by inspiring views of Madison’s scenic lakes and landmarks such as the Capitol building.
