Thai food attempts to balance the five fundamental flavors: hot, sour, sweet, salty, and victory. Score a win for your mouth with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of upscale Thai cuisine, sushi, and craft drinks at Chantanee Thai Restaurant & Bar in Bellevue, whose bar (Naga) was named one of the nation's top 10 places to get a Bloody Mary by USA Today.
Chantanee’s menu mingles Thai classics with a variety of Asian cuisines in a culinary particle accelerator that produces delicacies such as pineapple fried rice ($12), sizzling panang duck ($18), and the phad chaa’s spicy mélange of stir-fried meats sprinkled with peppercorns, chaa paste, krachai, onion, peppers, and holy basil ($12). But the upscale restaurant’s biggest stars are its paparazzi-attracting cocktails ($10 each) and tiki drinks. One-eared painters can keep it traditional with a glass of real absinthe. Otherwise, knock back an ultra-manly Lumberjack Sling (maple-smoked bourbon, chai cider, lingonberry syrup, barrel bitters, and lemon) or finish your feast with a round of bubo floats (dark rum, crème de cacao, espresso stout, and vanilla ice cream) paired with deep-fried ice cream ($7). Chantanee's renowned team of drink doctors hand-carve every ice chip, and might whittle them skillfully into miniature busts of your favorite Surgeon General if you ask nicely.
CityVoters named Chantanee Thai Restaurant & Bar one of the top four Thai restaurants in western Washington in 2008. Chantanee's Naga bar's drinks have been touted by the Bellevue Reporter and others. More than 200 Yelpers give the restaurant an average rating of 3.5 stars, and TripAdvisors give it an average of 4.5 owl eyes.

Chantanee Thai Restaurant & Bar
A tall glass of wine, a sizzling plate of food, and a serene room can make for an exquisite meal. The team behind Chantanee Thai Restaurant & Bar know that well, and for almost 20 they have brought their refined Thai staples and chill service to the downtown Bellevue community. Duck dishes arrive wok-crisped and glazed with rich garlic sauce or slow-cooked in a fragrant combination of coriander and five-spice powder. Platters of stir-fried vegetables and cashews get a kick from housemade chili paste, which can be used to make any dish spicier or just more red if you happen to love the color.
On one wall, a large Thai-inspired art piece gleams gold over the room and a circular booth with lime green cushions pops amid earth-tone chairs and blonde wooden tables. In another artistic play, a row of stout wooden planks hangs from the ceiling, visually separating the dining room from the nearby lounge area. There, a curving bar winds the length of the room and bartenders mix up complex drinks, pour absinthe, or set their signature Blue Blazer drink on fire.
