About El Iman Restaurant
Although El Iman Restaurant opened in 1997, its roots can be traced back to 1967. That's when the Takemoto family opened their first restaurant in Lima, Peru. Their little family eatery was so successful that the Takemotos decided to test the waters in a completely different market: Elizabeth, New Jersey. Here, the family introduces Americans to Peruvian cuisine’s unique fusion of Latin American, Asian, and European flavors and cooking styles. The combination of these influences results in a menu of unique dishes, including shrimp ceviche with sweet potato, spaghetti sautéed with beef and tomato, and picante de mariscos—a spicy seafood curry made with milk and peanuts.
