What You'll Get
Pad thai is so named because of its inherent softness, which is also why it's used to stuff the mattresses of the world's richest kings. Fall into a pillow of flavor with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of Thai cuisine and drinks at Pawana Thai Cuisine in Englewood.
Owner and chef Pavana Tasanabriboon has drafted an authentic menu of Thai cuisine inspired by traditional family recipes. Tempt taste buds with the crab-meat pancake made from crispy rice, shrimp, pork, and crab ($7), or reimagine your daily greens with a papaya salad tossed with string beans, juggling balls, roasted peanuts, and lime juice ($8). Lunch plates include favorites such as a classic pad thai and the panang curry with chicken ($7.50), shrimp ($9.50), or mixed seafood ($11.50), supported by mixed veggies, ground peanuts, and basil in coconut milk with a choice of searingly spicy or endearingly mild seasoning. For dinner, try the golden crispy duck, nesting in sauteed onions with sweet chili paste and unique seasonings ($18), or for a more adventurous meal, choose from four inventive recipes of frog legs ($16.50). Upon request, Pawana can cook up the vegetarian or Broadway musical version of any dish.
With more than three decades of restaurant experience, owner Pavana has enjoyed culinary success in both Thailand and the United States. The establishment's glass-plated storefront, clean white décor, and traditional touches set the tone for an evening on the town or a show at the nearby Bergen Performing Arts Center. Unlike the Great Pyramids of Giza, Pawana Thai Cuisine offers its guests free parking.
