Ristorante Buon Gusto
When Carmelo Iacolino and Vincenzo Vecchiola were youths growing up in Italy, they could often be found fishing, then cooking up their fresh-caught catches using the skills they picked up at their family restaurants in Italian fishing villages. So naturally, when they immigrated to the United States and started their own restaurant in South San Francisco in 1988, they filled the menu with plenty of frutti di mare. Some of the selections are traditional Italian fare—cioppino, linguini with clams—but there are a few less familiar dishes, such as a calamari steak and risotto pescatore. The menu is rounded out with a variety of authentic pasta, veal, beef, and poultry dishes, complemented by a diverse selection of wines culled from Italian and Californian vineyards, available by the glass and bottle, but not the handful.
