Business trip in Ballston It is a good choice for both of business or private. Everytime I stay in this hotel when I travel to DC area. It is clsoe to the metro (orange & sliver lines & many buses) station, and easy to go different places. The price is reasonable and staff are super friendly.

Very Dissappointing This was a girl trip and I was responsible for getting the hotel. I was VERY disappointed in this hotel, especially as a Holiday Inn. The main floor looked nice, however as soon as you got to the elevator it was evident that the building is old and lacks necessary upkeep. From missing panels, chipping paint and running toilets to just generally old, worn out facilities, I was sorry I had booked this hotel. The air conditioner could not keep up and it was never truly cool in the room. The location being fairly close to downtown DC was the only saving grace.

A sad decline of what used to be a good location This hotel has declined greatly in recent years. The staff are minimally polite (the desk clerk did not greet me on arrival, silently processed my reservation, and pushed the room key over without further interaction. I had to ask to see if my IHG rewards were being credited, and to verify the room number.) On at least one memorably morning, the staff had locked the fire evacuation stairs (which lead down to a ballroom), causing massive traffic jams on the two available elevators. The elevators smelled musty throughout the stay. I found out on checkout that room cleaning is only available on request (although they did empty the room trash and take away used towels on 2 of the 5 days I was there.) There is broken equipment in the lobby (closed restroom) and parking lot (gate blocked open). All this for $300 per night (govt. rate with tax). I have stayed at $70 per night hotels that made me feel far more comfortable, welcomed, safe, and valued.

Three and a half stars... My husband and I booked a two-night stay here to see some sites around Arlington and DC. Although I thought the rooms were a bit pricey, we like to stay in Holiday Inn Hotels and bit the bullet. We found a nice, clean room with soft mattresses and bedding, a coffee maker, microwave, blow-dryer, etc. The furniture in the room is dated but comfortable. The bathroom needed a little TLC as wallpaper was coming loose from the walls. The worst problem in our room was the toilet! We have never experienced such a low toilet seat, which is difficult with bad knees. We had a lovely breakfast this morning. Again, it was pricey but the food was excellent. Parking is extra--I believe $20 per day. But we did experience something a little problematic. We discovered that we couldn't do what we planned this afternoon in DC. So we decided to check out early and leave for home. We gave our key to the front desk at approximately 1:30 PM. She said that she would leave a note so that the front desk would officially check us out after midnight tonight. Why couldn't we check out earlier? I realize that there might have been an extra charge, but I don't understand being charged for a full night (around $250 a pop). Not very happy with that.

Not recommended The fact that this hotel seems to constantly have a string of school trips staying probably tells you where it's at. Yes, it's warm, safe and clean enough so the basics are covered but the rest is rapidly tiring decor, the lack of even a coffee machine in reception, placing the stairs in the ballroom and then hiring it out (that's fun while you're waiting for 100+ school kids to use the lifts on arrival), the AC that doesn't work, the staff with their "oh dear, never mind" attitude, the card system that's broken and useless even when it isn't (only 1 card per room). Even for a mid range chain like Holiday Inn, a poor hotel.
