Though he played the guitar for years, Josiah Wiens found himself running up against stalled progress, anxiety over learning new material, and frustration with his lack of advancement. So he threw his ineffective practice philosophies aside and began to experiment with new learning techniques. Josiah eventually hit on a method that dispelled his anxiety while jump-starting his technical abilities and musical sensitivity. Now, he helps both beginners and more experienced players hung up on the same difficulties that plagued him by teaching classes that interweave functional mastery with theory, which deepens spontaneous musicality. He also ministers to the instruments themselves, fixing guitars that have played one too many solos or been given life by fell magic.
Jenks Dance Academy is hip-hop and ballet, it's tumbling and it's jazz...but it's never quiet. That's the common denominator in this otherwise versatile dance school. Regardless of genre, all classes are active, engaging, and led by professional dance instructors keen on keeping things quick-footed and interactive. Jenks welcomes boys and girls as young as 12 months old for classes and camps that incorporate fitness, creativity, and self-discipline. So whether your daughter's enrolled in the princess camp—a ballerina-focused dance camp with props such as wands and tiaras—or your kid's strutting their stuff with swagger in the superstars/hip-hop class, they'll be honing their flexibility and coordination, building physical strength, and building the self-confidence necessary to drop jaws in the dance recital or produce aisle.
Jenks's studio is staffed with professional instructors. It's also equipped with modern enhancements in place to facilitate structure, dexterity, and safety. For instance, there are one-way observational windows, raised wood floors that prevent injuries or kids tiring out, and a separate kids' play room. The center also features a boutique with shoes and apparel.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
I believe in working with my students where they are, to bring them to the place they would like to be. I customize each session and program to fit your voice, and your unique style. Lessons are creative, open and interactive. I press my students to work hard and never doubt what they can achieve.
Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
I incorporate videos, songbooks, worksheets, etc. based on the students individual need. Students need to come prepared with a recording device and bottled water.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
I love singing and performing. I started VOW Coaching in 2010 after having been a choir vocal director for several years. I wanted to take the techniques I learned and offer them to the Tulsa/Broken Arrow community.
What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing a student achieve their vocal goal. When I see one of my vocalists improve their skill, sing with confidence, make their milestone audition or impress with their first public performance, I feel like I have done my job well.
Ballroom Revolution's certified instructors teach adults and kids that it's easy to dance the ballroom styles. They believe anyone can master ballroom, which they prove during private and group lessons where students grow in grace and confidence. To enhance the self-confidence that pupils earn in lessons, the studio also hosts dance parties where fancy-footed prodigies socialize and show off their moves.
