Counselors Andrea Doffoney Anyanwu and Namrita Chawla know the stresses that today's students are under when applying to college. So Andrea founded College Counselor Concierge with the belief that the college admissions process should be "a fun period of self-discovery." Armed with years of experience in the academic world and masters degrees in public policy, the application experts work hand-in-hand with undergraduates, graduates, international students, and aspiring MBAs. They help the prospective scholars choose the perfect institution for their needs, goals, and team mascot preferences, as well as craft the best applications possible. Counselors meet over-the-phone or in-person with clients as part of many of the customized consultation packages, helping to arrange visits to college campuses, prepare for necessary standardized tests, and plan for early application when necessary.
From its humble beginnings as a startup tutoring company in a Harvard University dorm room, C2 Education has blossomed into a nationwide network of more than 110 teaching centers that together serve over 12,000 students. Its expert instructors tailor lessons to each student, helping pupils reach their highest potential on SAT and ACT tests, master AP exams, and excel in any subject in school.
In several locations across the United States, ABC Languages instills the basics of more than 20 languages such as Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish in those who have little to no experience with the tongue. These students have included celebrities—such as Uma Thurman, who practiced her Japanese for Kill Bill through ABC Languages—as well as employees of corporations such as the NBA and several international banks. Lessons take place in a group format (with a limit of 10 students) or one-on-one, and special lessons for kids are also available.
The instructors at Kims Academy help grade-school and high-school students perform better in the classroom or on standardized tests. With 20 years of teaching experience, director Stephanie Kim—who also codirects the Scorehigh tutoring facility—professionally trains her team of experts. Working one-on-one or in small groups, the instructors provide students with tools for tackling SAT and ACT tests or improving writing and math skills. They answer tough questions on subjects such as grammar, constructing research papers, and whether it’s possible to learn through osmosis by using a textbook as a pillow.
With nine types of after-school classes designed for kids aged 5–18, the staff of Young Artists Club works to enrich local youth, whether helping out with homework or inspiring their inner Van Goghs. Organized by age group, classes cover subjects such as piano or guitar lessons, cartoon-drawing, and painting. The staff also specializes in teaching Chinese and English language courses that cover listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
