Best friends Jessica Kucinski and Michelle Minster took inspiration from others in creating their ladies-only, classes-only fitness studio. They present more than 10 classes, such as Skinny Sculpt, belly dancing, Zumba, Interval Blast, and different types of yoga. For a more individual-focused experience, Jessica leads personal training.
Though they didn't always run their own fitness studio—since always would encapsulate the 16th century, in which neither of them were interested in paying the king's 100% tax rate levied on all fitness studios—Jessica and Michelle have always loved working out. One night, however, over glasses of pinot noir, they realized they were only going to the gym in order to attend classes. They agreed that classes made fitness fun, and that other women inspired them. At the time, Michelle was crisscrossing the skies as an airline employee. Jessica was working in sales, though in 2009, the day after completing her very first marathon, she had established the Montville Adventure Boot Camp for Women. An avid runner, Michelle was eager to land her sneakers back on earth. Thus was born Little Black Dress Fitness Studio.
Large, rough-hewn stones border its waiting area, and purple mats fleck the class area's airy, spacious layout. Though there aren't any onsite showers, the staff offers towel service and complimentary coffee and tea.
Since its inception in 2000, CrossFit has amassed an army of dedicated participants that include everyone from pro athletes to stay-at-home moms. It's no surprise, then, that one of CrossFit's stated missions is "inclusiveness". Just because it accepts anyone regardless of experience, age, or fitness level doesn't mean it's easy, however. CrossFit Parsippany's array of ropes, truck tires, kettlebells, and cardio equipment await anyone with the willingness to exert themselves and commit to improved health. Inexperienced participants don't have to worry, though; instructors safely scale each Workout of the Day, which draws from sports such as gymnastics and Olympic powerlifting, to suit each individual's physical condition and ability. With continued effort, all participants will see marked improvements in everything from strength and power to balance and stamina, resulting in a better quality of life and the ability to play checkers with barbell plates.
The instructors at Prana Yoga Center help visitors connect with the mind, body, and spirit through yoga and Pilates classes inside an elegant studio. A peaceful sanctuary
that was voted Best Yoga Studio by readers of Morris/Essex Health & Life, Prana Yoga Center’s practice space emulates Hindu culture with rustic tile and wood details, mottled orange and yellow walls, and a tranquil golden icon. Classes range from gentle, meditative sessions to advanced sequences, including twists, arm balances, and back bends, most of which do not require students to have rubber skeletons. The studio also hosts events such as introductory workshops, guest instructors, candlelight yoga, and special mommy-and-me classes.
Within a spacious room with hardwood floors, natural light spills in from the windows to illuminate bright yellow walls and the asanas, or poses, assumed by Sadhana Yoga and Ayurveda’s students. The family-operated business was borne of its founders’ first-hand experiences in how yoga changed their lives for the better, an aspect they hope to share with their clients. With this in mind, they offer ten class types that cater to various ages and experience levels. At Sadhana, beginners can learn the basic foundations and principles of yoga, while experienced practitioners can attend customizable classes designed to challenge their focus as they use their minds and bodies in tandem.
