  • Matica Arts LLC
When children dream of running away to join the circus, they might be thinking of playing with the animals all day, or dressing up like a clown, or sleeping on a bed of cotton candy. But there is one benefit of circus life that even parents can get behind: physical fitness. Born out of a love two people bore not only for each other, but also for acrobatics, dance, and music, Matica Arts invites students of all ages to explore the wonders of the three-ring. Whether teaching juggling, ball-walking, and stilt work in the Circus 4 All program or fusing martial arts, dance, and acrobatics together in capoeira classes, Joel Melendez and Heidi Kirchofer cannot help but introduce their joy into the lives of others.

  • The Music Shop
The Music Shop's name may be succinct, but its scope isn't. Every square foot of the store is devoted to musicians of all disciplines, from the racks of sheet music for classical and pop tunes to the aisles lined with guitars, drums, amplifiers, and other accessories. A hallway in the back of the store leads to private lesson rooms, where dozens of instructors teach the basics of piano, guitar, bass, saxophone, violin, flute, and drums. The Music Shop also offers repair services for raspy woodwinds and guitars that won't stop complaining about their achy necks.

  • Esteban Ramos Music

Esteban Ramos Music is dedicated to ensuring that each student grows and expands as a musician/vocalist. Each student will have a designated curriculum which meets them at their musical level. Drum students are required to provide a fully functioning drumset as well as drum sticks. Piano Students are required to provide a piano for all lessons. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? The students are my inspiration. My desire to help each and every student reach their goals musically. My number one priority is to ensure that every student walks away with an ability to change lives through their musical knowledge and skills. What do you love most about your job? • Newtown Centre Of Classical Ballet & Voice
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? The studio is the only school in the area featuring the Russian Vaganova training method and teachers certified in the American Ballet Theatre's National Training Curriculum. The school has been a landmark in Newtown for 40 years and is in it's third generation of directly passed-down leadership. What's one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans? Bring pink ballet slippers, a leotard, pink tights, and hair in a bun. Ballet is both art and sport but is unique in it's tradition-centered decorum and ritual. By coming dressed like a ballerina, one enters its world of etiquette and class as a first step exploring the unique artistry of ballet. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? I trained at Newtown Centre of Classical Ballet since childhood. I started under its original owner and then trained under her protege. When the position of Artistic Director was offered to me two years ago, I wanted to continue its unique educational and performance-focused role in our town. What do you love most about your job? I love watching students learn to express themselves through ballet. They have to work to achieve the technical skills which teaches discipline, excellence, and perseverance, and to find their own creativity and expression as well, both which serve to shape the persons they become.

  • Callanish School of Celtic Arts
When Maggie Carchrie voyaged to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, she hardly expected to discover a passion that would win her the U.S. Mòd Women's Championship in Gaelic Singing two years later. She was immediately enchanted by the traditional music of the region, planning her future travels around the areas of Cape Breton and Scotland and diving headfirst into the Celtic culture. With a college degree in music therapy and a resume that boasts subsequent studies at the Ceòlas Music School, she built a foundation for a life filled with award-winning Celtic performance and education. She lays claim to two albums, books several East Coast showcases throughout the year, and furthers the reach of Celtic stylings through the concerts and CDs of Mermaid Productions. Maggie draws from all of these experiences to act as director of the Callanish School of Celtic Arts. There, she instructs students of all ages in music, dance, and lyrical language, managing a non-competitive venue for guests to experiment with age-old harmonies and master a brogue without having to install a second tongue. From the high-stepping choreography of Scottish Highland Dance to the signature keening of the bagpipe, she outlines several levels of melodic techniques, all of which are steeped in rich history.
