After years of unsuccessful attempts at inventing a two-wheeled form of propulsion, Wilbur and Orville Bike finally realized the problem was that their prototypes were all screwed to the gymnasium floor. Achieve functional mobility with today's Groupon: for $59, you get an annual membership package to New Balance Hubway (a $121 total value). The package includes:
- One registered annual membership (an $85 value)
- Three casual three-day membership passes (a $12 value each)
New Balance Hubway is closed for the winter, but will reopen in early March.
New Balance Hubway was commissioned on Earth Day 2011 to bestow bicycles on Bostonians, granting them a green, healthy means of traversing the city. Both the registered and casual levels of membership grant access to wheels at any of 60 solar-powered stations, allowing pedalers to take their three-speed steed on a journey of up to 30 minutes––enough time to get to the grocery store or race the paperboy––before incurring additional fees. Hubway currently boasts 60 stations and is continuously growing and adding new stations. Members receive a personalized key that unlocks any of 600 bikes throughout the city during every season except winter. Since customers are charged in half-hour blocks after 30 minutes when the bike is not safely docked, this program is ideal for short trips around town rather than extended voyages to the countryside or cycle husbandry programs. All members must sport a helmet while cruising, and each vehicle is equipped with front and rear flashing LEDs, a front rack, and adjustable seat.
Hubway is seriously the coolest thing to hit Boston in ages. It's fun, smart, efficient, greenBret C., Yelp, 2/1/12
Hubway is great! After doing a 24 hour membership, I signed up for the year long one...I barely take the T anymore, and love biking around the city.Erica M., Yelp, 9/29/11
