Pole-dancing classes, which last 90 minutes, span three levels of difficulty. The initial Diva level prepares novices for more complex routines with slow, controlled motions that combine yoga, Pilates, and tai chi. Midlevel Woman and advanced Warrior classes increase the difficulty and continue developing students' individual style. Belly dancing classes teach slow and sensual movements as well as fast, powerful ones as students learn to isolate their lower- and upper-body movement. More advanced classes teach the use of veils and scarves and give students a chance to choreograph routines of their own. Studio Venus offers two types of yoga classes: gentle, which is held on Mondays and focuses on body rhythm and breathing; and advanced, which meets on Wednesdays and teaches students to hold poses for longer to build strength, flexibility, and endurance.

The antigravity silk classes send students into the air in silk hammocks to practice skills drawn from aerial circus and dance. The 60-minute classes enhance physical fitness, motor skills, and flexibility, and the exercises supplement and strengthen the muscles used in pole dancing. Check out the class schedule.

Studio Venus

In 1975, Karen was overweight and looking for a change. She began training and teaching as an aerobics instructor at the YMCA, and for the next 15 years led classes around the Chicagoland area. Still, Karen found herself once again seeking a new outlet, and fell in love with pole dancing.

Today, Karen shares her passion for fitness at Studio Venus. Female-focused classes cover a broad range of topics suitable for beginners or experts, and pole-dancing workouts can be supplemented with antigravity silk lessons and yoga. With every class and every expansion of the curriculum, Studio Venus strives to create a safe environment for women to explore new experiences and spin around poles without the hassle of climbing up a barbershop.
