What You'll Get
Recent studies show that people who engage in regular exercise experience a boost in strength, a lower percentage of body fat, and virtually no change in their toe-wrestling skills. Prove two out of three ain’t bad by putting your body to better use with today's Groupon: for $20, you get 10 drop-in fitness classes at Star Performance Complex (a $50 value). Choose from fitness boot-camp, Zumba, and yoga classes (Lamaze not included in the deal).
Star’s fitness boot-camp classes forge fantastic figures out of flab and lethargy three times a week (Monday at 8:30 a.m., Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and Friday at 12:00 p.m.). Instructor and master motivator Amy Modrell incorporates circuit training, sports drills, interval exercises, impromptu spelling bees, resistance exercises, and more—keeping students engaged with a different style of class each time and a few surprise plot twists. While Amy will challenge students and sporadically bring sore muscles to the verge of tears, her approach will inspire you to take your body to the next level of incontrollable mirror fixation with positivity and encouragement.
For a class with an easier-to-predict beat, Zumba (Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m., Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m., Thursdays at 12:00 p.m., and Fridays at 9:15 a.m.) combines Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow dance moves, toning muscles in a fun environment that—unlike the tuna sandwich that’s been in the office fridge since May—never grows stale or tentacles. Instructor Julie Sauer will present each core-crunching move in a manner that students of all sizes and shapes can grasp, except for Sneetches of the star-bellied tribe. Julie also teaches yoga on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. to give classicists their weekly fix of flowing postures. Drop in to any of these classes within six months after attending your first fitness class at Star Performance Complex.
