Whether meeting new friends in a class, or organizing an instructional cooking party with loved ones, pupils get hands-on training. Classes include The Perfect Brunch, whose menu consists of cinnamon buns, oven eggs, Lithuanian potato dish kugelis, homemade sausage, and fresh, seasonal fruits. There's also The Essential Pasta, which covers traditional and gluten-free noodles alike; Entrees and Sauces; and the multi-level Bread Making course, which fans say is the best thing since sliced mounds of unbaked dough.
John Hand had a theory: for any problem a person might have, someone in their local community has a solution. To that end, he founded Colorado Free University, continuing a tradition that began with the Denver Free University of the 1970s and early '80s. Whereas the Denver Free University was created as a political move to make education more accessible, the Colorado incarnation sets its sights on simple personal betterment, becoming more of a learning network than a school. All of its teachers are independent contractors culled from the local community, and together they helm skill-based and enrichment classes for adults, spanning a range of artistic, humanitarian, and business disciplines.
Students can receive training in foreign languages or ASL, business or digital marketing, or acting, visual arts, or woodworking. The school's facilities also accommodate CompuSkills computer-training classes, which progress from basic sessions in computer operation to advanced sessions in photoshopping a ghost out of a family portrait. There are cooking classes, foreign language courses, and style classes, all of which turn out well-rounded pupils. The campus's 89-seat John Hand Theater, meanwhile, hosts intimate performances from local Firehouse Theater Company and Spotlight Theatre Company.

The Wine Education Institute provides fun and approachable workshops, seminars, and certification courses for avid consumers and industry trade members in the areas of wine and spirits.
What can a student expect in one of your classes?
Our workshops are interactive, students can expect to have a participatory environment where questions are encouraged! Each workshop is two hours long and includes a tasting. Our workshops are not 'tasting' events, our primary goal is education not drinking.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
WEI was founded to educate individuals more about what is in the class. Our team of teachers hold certifications from various organizations including the WSET, Society of Wine Educators, and French Wine Society. We even have a Master of Wine candidate on staff!
What do you love most about your job?
We love to educate. We love to help people explore wine and spirits and discover why we are so passionate about it ourselves. To us a wine class is not just about wine, its a history lesson, business lesson, and geography lesson all rolled into one!
The Uno Pizzeria & Grill story began in downtown Chicago in 1943, where Ike Sewelll invented a pizza you could truly call a pie without immediately being fined by the U.S. Board of Pastries. He built a tall-edged crust laced with lots of butter, the filled it with cheese, Italian spices, and fresh tomatoes, baking the whole thing for an hour. It would become Pizzeria Uno's signature recipe.
Today, Uno Pizzeria & Grill spans about half of the U.S. and sends the aroma of bubbling cheese wafting through several international cities as well. At each location, cooks show up early every morning to begin making dough, creating specialty pies using ingredients that Ike could have only dreamed of, such as spinach and roasted eggplant. Lighter, quicker entrees are available too, including Italian favorites such as shrimp scampi and gluten-free steak and burger options.
