  • Extreme Fit Training
Owner and instructor Rachel Hunt and her team of instructors motivate their participants to think beyond the treadmill. At Extreme Fit Training, instructors guide them toward slimmer waistlines and more sculpted muscles in their lineup of ever-changing, high-intensity boot-camp classes. The coed classes are held indoors and outdoors all over the Birmingham area. To keep participants engaged and inspired to continue on, instructors avoid repeating the same workouts during each four-week boot-camp session. Instead, they rotate through resistance, cardio, and core exercises that work the entire body. In some sessions, patrons might jog up steps at an outdoor stadium, and in others they might toss medicine balls. Before patrons attend their first class, the instructors assess their body-fat percentage and take their measurements. With this analysis, the team designs customized goals for boot campers and pushes them to achieve them in each class.

  • Jazzercise Birmingham
Jazzercise is 60 minutes of cardio, strength training, and stretching that incorporates moves from hip-hop, yoga, Pilates, jazz dance, kickboxing, and resistance training with handheld weights. Dancing with the Stars multiple-champion Cheryl Burke is a big fan of Jazzercise's improvisational workouts, though luckily you won't need her dance moves to get the most out of your class. If you're prone to first-class jitters, though, you can review the basic moves online before you go. Expect to burn off up to 500 calories with each go-round.

  • Jamme's Crunk Fitness
When Jamme Morginn arrived in Birmingham and couldn’t find a dance workout class, she started her own gospel hip-hop aerobics classes in her church’s basement. As more and more students spread the word about the calorie-burning sessions, Jamme began teaching them in local clubs and dance schools. Now she classes at her studio and hosts a line of exercise DVDs that allows students to work out in the comfort of their living rooms or TV-equipped minivans. As pulsating beats and lights fill the room, Jamme’s swag-infused moves merge with aerobic motions to tone bodies and burn calories. Her funky cardio style has scored her several mentions in newspapers, magazines and television shows including a feature on Fox 6 news and continues to spread to several states as students engage in her fun workouts.
