For 40 years of her life, Lisa Lavoie went without a single urge to perform muscle-toning spins on every chrome pole she came across. Now, she can't imagine a life where she doesn't artfully maneuver around a smooth metallic post on a regular basis. Once she discovered the intense yet fun exercise form in 2009, she fell in love with it and opened her own studio less than four years later. Today, Lavoie dedicates herself to eliminating pole dancing's negative stigma and exposing it as the artistic strength-training workout that it truly is. With help from a team of certified instructors, she leads rigorous, one-hour classes that aim to build confidence levels, upper-body strength, and core muscles. In addition to leading pole fitness classes, instructors helm other out-of-the-box fitness classes, including aerial silks and belly-dancing classes.
At Peak Fitness, trainers use workouts devised by physical therapists to help groups and individuals get in shape fast, improve their agility for sports, or build functional strength. In one-hour personal-training sessions, trainers lead clients through acceleration drills, core exercises, and functional strengthening exercises that work to reshape bodies. The 3,500 square-foot center features rugged turf, comfortable air conditioning, and full showers, ensuring that busy professionals can return to work fresh and energized.
The "CE" in CEFitness stands for Cindy Evangelous, a fitness expert with 27 years of experience in competitive aerobics, choreography, and personal training. Cindy and the rest of the instructors at this welcoming studio specialize in full-body transformations, from bridal boot camps to preparation for bikini competitions. Trainers help their students quickly and effectively burn fat with high-intensity cardio classes, as well as build strong, lean muscle tone with ballet barre classes.
There's a little bit of everything at New England Fitness Compound. Unlike the typical CrossFit gym, the space contains both cardio machines and functional-training equipment. Without the variety, its trainers wouldn't be able to host such a wide variety of classes. From CrossFit and FUNctional Fit to MMA, boot camp, and Pilates, the mix of battling ropes, free weights, and punching bags equips instructors for every class.
At Studio 100B, Amy Chacharone draws on her Zumba specialty training and a host of certifications as she leads upbeat, fun classes set to Latin rhythms. Outside of Zumba, the studio also hosts muscle-conditioning sessions, intense boot camps, and Zumbatomic classes for kids.
Blackstone Valley Fitness encompasses 7,000 square feet devoted to improving the way clients look and feel. A fleet of group fitness classes provide a supportive environment while people sweat through Zumba, kickboxing, and boot-camp workouts. For a slower-paced workout, the gym offers yoga and Pilates classes, while trainers customize workouts for clients during personal-training sessions. And six days a week, parents can leave their kids and houseplants with staff members during complimentary childcare hours while they exercise. Beyond fitness, the facility offers tanning services in a bed or booth, and massages using sports, Swedish, and deep-tissue techniques.
