Five Things to Know About Texas Fit Chicks
Designed for women by women, the Texas Fit Chicks program fosters a supportive, non-threatening community in which women can achieve their fitness goals. Read on to learn more about this female-centered fitness company:
The program is meant for a woman’s body—every woman’s body. Nationally certified fitness experts design the energetic boot-camp workouts to achieve the goals women care about. When teachers demonstrate each exercise, they also show beginner and advanced modifications, so everyone from exercise newbies to veterans will get a workout that benefits them.
Trainers are with you the whole way. Before the first workout, trainers perform a one-on-one evaluation with each participant that includes measurements, body composition calculations, and a complimentary nutritionist-designed meal plan. But it doesn’t stop there—trainers also keep participants accountable throughout the program by checking in with them if they miss a day.
The boot camp is designed to be boredom-free. Every camp lasts one hour and includes a full-body workout with both cardio and strength segments. That’s where the predictability ends, though. Founder Melody Chandler creates new workouts for her trainers every week, so campers’ minds stay energized, their muscles keep guessing, and plateaus are avoided.
There’s no running. Enough said.
You won’t be alone. Since 2009, the company has helped almost 10,000 women journey toward their goals. It helps that they’re virtually everywhere, with more than 160 camp locations throughout Texas.
Texas Health & Racquet Club's owner, Randall Lavender, started his fitness career in the Navy, where he developed exercise regimens to keep men, women, and submarines in tip-top shape. At Texas Health & Racquet Club, his dedication to fitness is readily apparent: besides providing guests with access to state-of-the-art resistance training equipment, free weights, and cardiovascular machines, the gym offers a diverse array of group fitness classes ranging in discipline from cycling and body combat to Zumba and yoga. The crew at Texas Health & Racquet Club also offer personal training sessions, as well as other amenities that help make exercising easier, such as child-care and nutritional guidance. Members can also make use of on-site basketball and racquetball courts, and, afterward, they can relax in the sauna or atop the gym's hydro massage bed, which can help relieve pain and stress in just 10 minutes.

After experiencing the frustration that comes when workout results plateau and the cost of personal trainers seems prohibitive, Melody Chandler decided to become a personal trainer herself. Her goal: to help those just like her find a results-driven, empowering, and affordable solution. She shed the extra pounds that came along with hypothyroidism and four pregnancies, became a nationally-certified AFAA personal trainer, and founded Texas Fit Chicks to share her weight-loss strategies and support with other women.
Her all-female staff of certified personal trainers helps exercisers of all fitness levels shape their bodies during group fitness classes. In an effort to challenge muscle memory, the team shakes up workout regimens by using different techniques and equipment—including kettlebells, resistance bands, and lead sweatpants—each day. Melody’s team also helps exercisers retain their results by supplying nutrition support with meal plans and recipes that use healthy ingredients.
