Q&A with the Owner/esthetician
The interior of a business can affect how its customers feel. What kind of decor do you use to help make your clients feel pampered and at ease?
We focus on results rather than relaxation. To that end, furnish our clean treatment rooms with TVs, which are a better distraction than spa music. We also strive to create a welcoming environment for men because they comprise about half of our clientele.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a client?
Many of our new clients are surprised by how quick and easy their treatments are, and by the depth of information we provide.
What steps do you take to make your clients feel at ease?
We feel that the more comfortable we are as estheticians, the more comfortable our clients will feel. That's why we treat our clients like friends, yet in a professional manner.
Satin pillows dyed the colour of rose petals line a black banquette covered in velvet damask, below which bubbling footbaths sparkle in the light of the crystal chandelier above. This is Luxe Beauty Lounge & Mobile Spa, a spa that has been praised equally for the pedicures available at its brick-and-mortar location in Yaletown as for the expert beauty teams it sends to special events. Cleanliness is their top priority when dealing with feet. Nail technicians unwrap new cuticle sticks as well as new nail and foot files to groom each pair of toes, and their jet baths stay pristine with help from a special pipeless system and a miniature Aquaman with a passion for cleaning. Next on the list are luxurious surprises, including a tincture that transforms bathwater into a warm, softening salve, a scrub glittering with gold flakes, and an ice-cream-themed mani-pedi.
Facials evince the same level of care, as they are tailored to suit each skin type with organic tonics—there is even a biodynamic treatment for sensitive skin. Their mobile services centre around packages that range from 3 to 4 hours, and for weddings, they bundle their hair and makeup with their two in-house specialties into on-location pamperings that last up to 6 hours.
According to the aestheticians of Oxygen Facial Clinic, the remedy for problematic skin has been right under everyone's noses—and in everyone's lungs, for that matter. During treatments profiled in several magazines and praised by celebs such as Victoria Beckham and Channing Tatum, a specialized molecular sieve filters the surrounding air into an applicator that delivers a steady stream of oxygen into the skin. Geometry teachers swoon as aestheticians hold the applicator at a perfect 90-degree angle above skin's surface, creating pressure similar to a hyperbaric chamber in order to boost the skin's ability to absorb nutrients. Blended with the oxygen are antioxidant-rich agents—including vitamins, green tea, and a low-weight hyaluronic acid—that delve deep into the skin to increase moisture retention.
Clients can opt to introduce one of two additional formulations into each treatment to leave their faces even more radiant. The Opulence infusion brightens skin with botanicals and highly concentrated vitamin C, while the Atoxelene infusion plumps skin with peptides that dissipate fine lines and wrinkles.

When the owners of Integrative Naturopathic Medical Centre chose a logo for their natural health center, they opted for the Tibetan symbol of the endless knot. The knot traditionally represents the interconnectedness of the universe, making it uniquely suited to a clinic that seeks to understand the interconnected elements of each patient’s health.
By integrating different healing styles, from chiropractic and massage to traditional Chinese medicine and homeopathy, the three naturopathic physicians that helm the clinic strive to combat ailments without oversimplifying them. Many treatments are designed to ease medical issues without the side effects associated with traditional procedures, including prolotherapy treatments that help alleviate chronic pain with sugar water injections and thermography scans that check for disease without harmful radiation or ticklish cootie shots. At their skin centre, technicians can buff away dead skin and fine lines with microdermabrasion and firm features with non-surgical facelifts powered by the Rejuveness system. Visitors can also shop for their own holistic remedies in the natural dispensary, which stocks a range of Chinese herbs, homeopathic solutions, and natural hormones.
Healing others has been a part of Neata Auttapong’s life since she was a child growing up in Thailand, where, as Fresh Vancouver noted, she began learning the art of Thai massage at the age of 12. Years of learning holistic practices from the top healers in Thailand eventually led Neata to Vancouver, and since arriving, she’s opened three Sabai Thai Spa locations. Perhaps the spa’s expansion can be chalked up to the waterfall of accolades it’s gained, including praise from The Express show on Shaw TV and from _Coco Magazine_in Japan.
At each location, staff members reach for Éminence Organic Skin Care products during nine types of facials, and they send clients home with organic products from Dannyco and SpaRitual. Sabai’s menus are also packed with 14 types of massages, which clients can enhance with aromatic scents, exfoliating body wraps, and a refreshing mani-pedi that leaves digits cleaner than Mr. Clean’s morning kids show after the censors get through with it.
