Tim Cundy draws on more than 16 years of experience as a PGA professional to smooth out swings and tailor lessons for beginner and professional golfers alike. During each one-hour lesson, golfers swing irons and woods while working one-on-one with Cundy to straighten hooks into green-seeking spears. A certified Hank Haney pro associate instructor, Cundy has experience in guiding greenhorns and fine-tuning the shots of pros, ensuring each lesson helps fairway frolickers lower handicaps by improving their stance, grip, and ability to command the wind. Lessons are held at one of two outdoor ranges or inside a sheltered teaching facility. The sheltered swing center is replete with an indoor putting area and hitting bays overlooking the range and its mob of mannequin spectators.

Ask one of the coaches at Operation CrossFit to define CrossFit, and they'll probably say it's "constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement." Then ask them to describe the typical workout, and they'll probably say there isn't one. On any given day, it could be a series of kettlebell swings, pull-ups, and double unders?jumping rope with two revolutions per jump?in 10 minutes. Such a workout challenges every metabolic pathway, not to mention builds strength and cardiovascular endurance. Tomorrow, the workout might be a series of 200-meter runs interspersed with air squats and percussive panting.
By constantly changing the workout, CrossFit prepares the body for anything. Head coach Peyton Warren and his team lead every group workout, upholding the CrossFit ethos of support and encouragement by adjusting exercises to accommodate all levels of fitness. They also mix up locales, often taking things outside. For those with specific goals, Operation's coaches gladly lend their expertise to helping students train for events such as obstacle races and castle-tower escapes.
At Lotus Fencing Academy, swords clang as competitors and recreational fencers face off in sparring matches. Here, their moves are well-honed, as the academy's coaches have achieved fencing success in the Olympics and in national clubs in Egypt and Colombia. The instructors draw on this experience as they lead both kids and adults in the basics of defending and attacking.
Their private lessons help fencers improve their footwork and specific techniques, while fitness-focused classes help them build strength and stamina. New fencers are welcome to use the club's equipment.
At The International Fencing Center, students lunge and parry under the tutelage of head coach Walid Mahran, a master of fencing who thrice qualified for the Egyptian Olympic team. He and his similarly decorated coaching staff pass on the skills that carried them to the pinnacle of the sport, starting with fundamentals, then building up to more advanced techniques. As students learn to handle their foil or epee weapon, they enjoy use of a facility built with grounded fencing strips and sprung wooden floors.
