It’s not uncommon for crazed fans to camp out for concert tickets, or Black Friday shoppers to park themselves outside stores hours before they open. But patrons of Flying Saucer Pie Company—the self-proclaimed oldest pie shop in Houston—take fanaticism to a new level. Every year before Thanksgiving, the customers form a line that stretches for blocks. In 2011, ABC News reported that the crowd began to assemble around 2 p.m. Tuesday, meaning some customers camped out overnight for the legendary pies. Flying Saucer isn't the only spot with a loyal following—Houston is full of delicious bakeries, many of which have been honing their craft for generations.
