Q&A with Ashley, Owner Holistic Health Practitioner

What is one of your signature services? How is it performed?
I specialize in many aspects of women's wellness which include fertility, the perinatal time, early labor, labor and birth as well as the postpartum period and beyond. One of my signature treatments is called the labor preparation massage. This session is catered to the specific needs of each women and is a blend of relaxation and rebalancing techniques with the use of acupressure to support the natural process as the body prepares for birth. All of the techniques performed during this treatment are comfortable and safe for full term pregnancy and are supportive to what is already occurring in the body. It is a wonderful way to connect with your body during the last stage of pregnancy and a wonderful way to connect with your baby before your birthing time.

What’s your favorite part about your job?
Getting to work with women and partners as they become families. Supporting women during such a sacred and transitional time is an honor. As a massage therapist, it's amazing to see women go from feeling discomfortable to truly enjoying their pregnant bodies!

What steps do you take to make your clients feel at ease?
_I make sure that every session is special and unique for each client. I always provide time to sit down and talk before we ever begin a treatment so that my clients feel comfortable and are able to provide me with helpful information to make their session as effective and enjoyable as possible. I also do a postural assessment beforehand to address specific needs and focus areas. During the treatment, I set up special pillows for optimal positioning. I use a blend of eastern and western massage techniques with focused intent to create a safe space for a body/mind healing experience. I encourage my clients to communicate their needs and wants and to ask as many questions as necessary.

I also have many resources for support and education and a lending library for all my clients! I believe knowledge is empowering which is why I do my best to create an open, learning environment while also offering a serene and nurturing space for a relaxing massage experience._

Q&A with Bryan Hill, Owner/Founder/CEO

Do you offer your customers any extra perks?
Clients can sign up for our free monthly newsletter filled with educational resources on exercises and stretches they can do to maintain proper body mechanics, increase flexibility, and reduce pain.

The interior of a business can affect how its customers feel. What kind of decor do you use to help make your clients feel pampered and at ease?
Our physical therapy gyms are designed to allow treatment to focus on functional body movement and mechanics. We use free weights, medicine balls, kettlebells, and other equipment that will maximize an individual's freedom of movement through an exercise, rather than gym equipment.

Our massage rooms are set apart from our physical therapy gyms to minimize noise disruption during massage sessions.

What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
We started 11 years ago in a garage just doing physical therapy, and have grown into three facilities in San Diego and La Mesa, expanding our services to include massage, personal training, sports-performance training, group classes, and multisport coaching.

Riviera Supper Club and Turquoise Room gives do-it-yourselfers a reason to eat outside the kitchen. Like a classy backyard without the tuxedo-clad bug zappers, the restaurant serves platters of raw filet mignon, pork spare ribs, and bratwursts for diners to cook up on an enormous, indoor communal grill. Yet much of the guesswork is taken out of the equation: every steak is USDA Choice, every rack of ribs comes pre-seasoned with a dry rub, and every side dish takes shape in the kitchen under the eye of skilled chefs. And those same culinary masters can also handle the rest of the cooking if guests desire to stay away from the heat—the menu also includes entrees of slow-braised pork and roast chicken.

This family-style grilling experience is just one facet of a two-sided coin. The Turquoise Room stirs up a different sort of nostalgia, harkening back to the age of lounge singers and strong cocktails with a mid-century bar. There, glasses of Pimm's Cup and martinis served with blue-cheese-stuffed olives offset bacon-fat popcorn and garlic bread topped with sauteed onions. To further the club experience, live bands of every genre play in the space throughout the week.

With more than 30 years of professional experience himself, Dr. Alan Michels is joined at Michels Family Dental by two of his seven sons. Along with a staff of hygienists and technicians, the dentists strive to make every patient feel comfortable as they provide services that range from general to cosmetic, all while employing the latest techniques and technologies.

Preventative dentistry is the foundation of the practice's approach, and the team encourages patients to schedule routine check-ups so that dentists can identify potentially troublesome areas early. If problems do need to be addressed, the staff can confidently revitalize smiles by applying porcelain crowns or veneers, sealing gaps with tooth-colored composite fillings, or even use medical-grade laser technology to fight off villainous tooth fairies. Throughout each appointment, a dentist will work with patients and take care to fully explain all of the available options.
