Explosive kicks. Gravity-defying backflips. Raucous beats. Capoeira matches act as a colourful form of cultural expression in addition to a powerful form of self-defence. Though Marcos Martins—also known by his capoeira name, Paraiba—was born in Brazil, it wasn't until he moved to Canada as a child that he discovered capoeira. At 14 years old, he began training with Mestre Barrão, an internationally renowned capoeirista and the founder of Axé capoeira, which has schools around the world. Marcos went on to open Axé Capoeira Toronto, where he carries out his mentor's mission to preserve capoeira as a fighting style, art form, and vital part of Brazilian culture. During beginner capoeira classes, the instructors teach the form's basic martial arts and dance moves, as well as musical elements and basic aerobics. Advanced classes train students in the more tricky motions and the holistic knowledge necessary to advance in capoeira's belt system, such as how to predict gravity's current strength before executing a backflip. CapoeiraFit women's-only classes impart self-defence skills during high-energy, whole-body workouts that focus on core muscles. In kids’ classes, wee ones cultivate self-esteem as they train their bodies and learn capoeira's noble history. The classes also engage youngsters' creative instincts as they sing, dance, and learn to play instruments.
The medical professionals at La Vie Health Centre dedicate themselves to proactive health care— they thoroughly investigate each patient’s past and present health in order to predict and prevent future maladies, such as cancer or heart disease. They firmly believe, along with the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society, that early detection is key, and their slate of services reflects this. The staff works one-on-one with each patient that enters the facility, performing comprehensive screenings and testings and then helping them to modify their lifestyles and habits in order to dodge potential health risks, such as onrushing asteroids.
One-day comprehensive wellness assessments last approximately five hours and detect irregularities through ECGS, stress tests, blood work, and fitness and nutritional analyses. Oftentimes, these appointments lead to year-round wellness programs, which include quarterly visits to the physician and dietician, ongoing care, and access to medical advice by telephone, email, or astral projection 24 hours a day. The staff further encourage holistic wellness with the Be Healthy Program, a getaway package that sends travellers to the Brookstreet Hotel, where they receive facials, personal training sessions, and meals for two. A smattering of cosmetic treatments, such as Botox and Laser Genesis skin therapy, match outward appearances to newly refreshed interiors.
The Centre’s commitment to preventative medicine is also apparent in its My Life is in My Hand program— a USB card that holds patients’ past and present medical history, ensuring that they’re never without any crucial information about their constitution. The team respects patients’ time as much as their health, promising short waiting times, offering online bookings and cancellations, and sending everyone home in complimentary hovercrafts.
Bellagio Beauty & Day Spa knows how to set the mood. During an array of couples services, duos bask in the intimate ambiance of a candlelit room outfitted with side-by-side beds, a whirlpool tub, and a shower. But the spa attendants certainly don't neglect solo clients. Individuals can receive soothing aromatherapy massages or facials that compensate for sun damage, signs of aging, or an impolite conversation with a wasp. Single-capacity body wraps can enact full-body exfoliation with seaweed or mud ingredients. No matter the service, skin can be renewed with renowned products from Serena Ray Dead Sea, RVB, or Albert d?Arnal.
But if that's not enough, clients can now take advantage of a full menu of medical treatments courtesy of the team behind Light Touch Med Spa, which acquired Bellagio in 2012. Lasers can zap unwanted hair or outdated tattoos, and Botox injections or other fillers can erase wear from years of frowning at stoplights.

Spread across 270 historic acres, Knollwood Golf Course is a challenging 36-hole facility comprised of the Old Course set right alongside the New Course?both designed by well-regarded course superintendent Jack Harris in 1970 and 1990, respectively. Players can opt for a round on the Old Course or the New Course links and enjoy hole designs that embrace the natural Ancaster topography. Elevated tees and long, perplexing par 5 holes with ominous names such as Buried Treasure and Redemption lead to finely timed fairways that open up into stirring panoramas. The New Course entices advanced club swingers, and the Old Course's more accessible series of par 4 holes with large, accommodating greens is appealing for beginners.
Knollwood players don clean-cut golf attire and enjoy a golfer's paradise that has been open to the public since 1970 and keeps players happy with sprightly paced 10-minute tee times, on-site restaurants and beverage carts, and a "no-argue" rain cheque policy. The facility's proud groundskeepers maintain large, naturalized areas on the course intended to encourage the wildlife to thrive and occasionally join in on a game.
Reshmi Chetram has been dazzling audiences on the dance floor with vibrant costumes and explosive movements for more than 16 years. Extending her knowledge beyond the workout studio, Reshmi hosts her own BollyFuze television series. She and her instructors lead Bollywood-dance-inspired workouts that patrons can join in the comforts of their own homes without needing to make 1,000 friends.
