Sabores del Sur
Nabbing the #2 slot on 7X7 Magazine's list of "50 Treats to Eat Before You Die", the alfajores at Sabores del Sur are the cherry on the top of any meal. Still, it would be a mistake to skip straight to dessert. Chef Guisell began cooking out of necessity—it was the only way she could indulge in the delicious dishes of her native Chile. But what began as a need has grown into a passion. Chef Guisell cooks from her grandmother's recipes, delighting customers with piquant empanadas, churrasco sandwiches, and South American-style shepherd's pie, as well as breakfasts that put creative spins on traditional U.S. dishes like omelettes and french toast, which can be served alongside mimosas, coffees, or espressos. But the alfajores—shortbread cookies filled with dulce de leche and topped with powdered sugar—have rightfully nabbed plenty of attention on their own, flying out the door one at a time or by the box. Sabores del Sur is also now serving South American beer and wine.
