The Baltimore shopping experience can be described in one word: diverse. While many of the popular national retail stores are found primarily in typically tourist-inhabited areas, the more unique and eclectic shops are tucked away into the various neighborhoods that make up the city.
One of the most popular places to go shopping in Baltimore is Harborplace & The Gallery, which is situated right on the Inner Harbor. Although the area is full of tourists, it’s a great place to shop at sophisticated, popular retailers while enjoying the many attractions and restaurants that line the harbor.
Venture deeper into the city to find locally owned, independent Baltimore shops and antique stores to explore.
DoubleDutch is a quaint boutique in the Hampden neighborhood that sells girly dresses, shoes and jewelry made by independent, local designers. In the evenings on the first Friday of each month, the store offers great discounts and serves food and drinks while a live DJ performs.
For those that love couture clothing that comes straight off the runway, the Ruth Shaw Boutique is the place to go. Among the popular designers carried at this shop are Jason Wu, Alexander Wong and Max Mara. Back up in Hampden, the Ma Petite Shoe store is the only place in the city where one can shop for shoes and artisan chocolates at the same time.
For bargain shoppers, the best deals are in the surrounding suburbs of Baltimore. The Arundel Mills Outlets, located just minutes outside of the city, is a bargain hunter’s paradise. This gigantic indoor outlet center features more than 200 stores with excellent deals. Arundel Mills is also home to a movie theater with 24 screens and Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament.
No matter the budget or taste, Baltimore truly has something for everyone.
