With directors, talent agents, and professional performers composing the faculty, it's no wonder the students at Class Act Studios spend much of their class time in front of the camera. With courses geared specifically toward kids, tweens, teens, and adults, the studio covers fields of study ranging from commercial work to film acting. Soap-opera and sitcom classes equip actors with genre-specific skills, such as how to expertly mimic the sound of a live studio audience. Improv and scene-study courses help students inhabit any scenario, with or without a script. Instructors even run private tutoring sessions and birthday parties that thrust invited friends in front of the camera.
With such things as YouTube and viral videos, what you say to the press can follow you around for the rest of your career. That's where Media Training Worldwide's online courses can help. They teach professionals the skills they need to speak eloquently to the press, create memorable stories and sound bites, and get their message across.
But Media Training Worldwide's courses do more than just teach people how to deal with the media. They also help them become better public speakers, give persuasive speeches, and nail job interviews without sliding a pile of pennies across the interviewer's desk. Read on to learn more about Media Training Worldwide's offerings:
How to Give a TED Talk: This course teaches how to give a TED Talk, short talks designed to inspire people in about 18 minutes or less. It specifically teaches the standards that need to be met if you want to speak at a TED event, but it can help people become a better public speaker in general.
Looking Good on TV: How to Prepare for the Video Camera: Knowing just how to position yourself on TV so you look comfortable and confident can be tricky. This course teaches you how to move your hands, how to sit or stand during an interview, and how to dress.
Public Speaking: Eliminate Your Fear: Many people feel anxious about speaking in public, whether during a presentation or a speech at a wedding, and this course gives you tools to deal with that fear.
Cultural Arts Playhouse has been fostering the development of up-and-coming actors for more than 15 years. At its Musical Theatre and Acting Academy, students from 1st–12th grade hone their on-stage skills by taking classes on singing, acting, and improvisation under the tutelage of an experienced teacher. Kids get to show off these skills in full theatrical productions, with main-stage shows opening up auditions to the entire community so people can see their neighbors' acting chops and dusted-off fake skulls. Cultural Arts Playhouse alumni have found success in New York and throughout the country, appearing in HBO's The Sopranos, and such Broadway productions as Les Miserables and Aladdin.
For more than 25 years, Kings Park Dance Center has taught hip-hop, ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and musical-theater classes to dancers of all ages. In addition to dance instruction, the studio offers voice lessons, drama classes, Zumba, and acrobatics classes that emphasize gymnastics floor skills. On occasion, dancers can attend studio-hosted masters classes taught by professional dancers and choreographers including Tyce Diorio, Stephen “Twitch” Boss, and Wade Robson.
The scent of an art studio—acrylic paint, brushes and fresh canvas—reveals untold promises of creativity and artistic exploration. Budding artists at Paint & Main revel in that smell, using it to inspire them during painting classes for kids and adults.
The adult paint nights rely on BYOB drinks for artistic inspiration, too. Participants sip the drinks while instructors help them turn blank white canvases into their own interpretations of the painting selected for that night. Kids classes function the same way, minus the alcohol. Miniature artists get to paint everything from sugary cupcakes to their math teachers feeding a dog some math homework. Paint & Main also teaches kids drawing and mixed-media skills during after-school sessions.
