High above the city, you might hear the sounds of splashing in the Seattle Municipal Tower. They're coming from the 25-meter lap pool and jacuzzi at one of Seattle Executive Fitness's two downtown outposts. Both gyms tend to the bodies of busy Seattleites with personal training sessions with certified fitness gurus, rows of cardio and Hammer Strength equipment, and more than 60 weekly classes. Before exercisers head back into the city to impress their bosses with their new muscles, they can freshen up in the facilities' plush locker rooms, which have showers, towel service, dry saunas, and steam rooms.
Founder Heather Scearce started practicing Pilates in 1997 after she suffered a severe back injury in a car accident. As it turns out, Pilates became an essential factor in her recovery, fueling her desire to help others discover the beneficial exercise form for themselves. In addition to one-on-one sessions, Conscious Body Pilates now offers Barre and Group Reformer classes in their newly remodeled space. The classes are small and promise more elbow room for friends, families and sock-puppet troupes to workout in tandem.

What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Exercise my creativity and passion for boxing. To share my transformative experience with others. To make boxing training accessible to everyone.
What do you love most about your job?
Working with all types of people and seeing their bodies transform! Watching how people transform in and out of the gym after they have felt the power of expression through punching.

A certified health specialist, Shane Yama longed to provide people of all ages and incomes access to affordable and effective workouts. So, with a degree in exercise science, he founded For U Fitness. Today, Shane and his team of a dozen or so certified personal trainers travel from Seattle to Spokane to Portland to residents custom training plans. Taking into account the client's age and fitness abilities, the trainers design sports performance, strength training, and even “mature adult” workouts to help customers meet their goals.
