Oversized marble busts, used as business cards in ancient Greece, served to create lasting impressions but clogged fishbowls for free-lunch drawings. Get efficiently immortalized with today's Groupon: for $118 you get a vintage hairstyling, airbrush makeup application, and a 30-minute pinup photo shoot with five retouched photos on a photo CD at Blush Pinups & Salon Blush (a $250 value).
Blush Pinups & Salon Blush molds everyday women into sultry vintage pinup girls with full-service hair, makeup, and photo services. A visit to this CityVoter 2010 Best Hair Salon nominee begins with professional hairstyling and airbrush makeup inspired by the elegant and alluring glamour icons of the WWII era, such as Betty Grable and the 1941 Cadillac convertible. Once face and hair are set, owner-photographer Alanna Ralph takes the stunning starlet aside to discuss the spicy seasoning of her snapshots. Once a plan of action has been formed, wooed, and seduced, vivacious vixens strut their stuff for a half-hour photo session and leave with five high-quality, retouched photos that reflect their tempting temperaments, as well as a CD containing the five photos. Photo books, calendars, and large prints are available at an additional cost. Many proud models use prints to wallpaper rec rooms.
- Somewhere among Fishtown's old row homes and faded buildings sits a time warp into pinup-era beauty, housed in pink walls and blaring retro music. The space is Blush, a three-year-old salon and spa owned by Alanna Ralph that seeks to emulate the glamour of the '20s, '30s and '40s. – Marielle Mondon, Philadelphia City Paper
- I recently did a pin up shoot at Salon Blush. I had a blast. The girls were friendly and curteous [sic] and helped me decide on outfits and hair styles. – Amy M., Yelp
Blush Pinups & Salon Blush
At Blush Pinups & Salon Blush, a CityVoter 2010 Best Hair Salon finalist, women of all shapes and sizes transform into sultry pinup girls with the help of hair, makeup, and photo services. A visit to the salon begins with vintage hairstyling and the application of makeup, both of which are modeled after WWII–era glamour icons such as Jane Russell or a cross-dressing John Wayne. Next, owner-photographer Alanna Ralph discusses the photo-shoot concept with the vintage vixen before snapping steamy pictures of her coyly playing records on a gramophone or stretched out on a velvet chaise longue. Alanna then retouches the images before adding them to CDs, photo books, and other available formats.
