Bally enshrines exercise classes, calorie-burning equipment, and a fitness-focused staff within its sanctuaries of health. A 30-day membership includes access to a spread of group exercise classes, including Pilates, Reaction Cycling, and Step Fitness (class offerings vary by location). For self-guided worker-outers, cardio equipment such as treadmills, elliptical machines, cross-trainers, and stair climbers torch calories while entertaining the brain with video entertainment and integrated music systems that occasionally whisper quotes from Charles Atlas. Bally also boasts an array of strength machines, free weights, and small-apparatus equipment, and grants gym-goers access to on-site locker rooms, showers, and, at some locations, a pool and steam room. Visit each location's webpage for a list of specific amenities and the lineup of classes.
Yogashakti Yoga Center director Mokshapriya Shakti began her yoga practice in 1970, developing experience with hatha yoga as the centering modality was experiencing a spike in popularity in the United States. Mokshapriya used her wealth of knowledge to lead an accredited yoga course for high-school students in Miami, learning how to awaken young people to the benefits of yoga before establishing Yogashakti Yoga Center in New York. At the studio, Mokshapriya taps her teaching know-how to create a curriculum that accommodates beginner, intermediate, and experienced students from all walks of life, from childhood to advanced age. Bolstered by a duo of certified instructors, Mokshapriya helps students unify their mind, body, and spirit animal through uplifting hatha-style yoga classes, emphasizing proper alignment and meditative self-reflection during gently paced sessions.
In a freshly renovated space that Well+Good called "minimalist … with elbow room," practitioners at Sacred Sounds Yoga pair flowing movements with mindful breathing—all without touching the ground. Aqua-colored aerial silks cradle students in hammock-like embraces as they perform controlled postures, inversions, and straitjacket escapes during Unnata aerial yoga, just one of the many yoga modalities offered at Sacred Sounds. Certified teachers also lead candlelit flow yoga for cancer patients and survivors, and the studio hosts tai chi classes and workshops for tai chi immersion or body detoxes. To stay connected to the community, Sacred Sounds donates a portion of its proceeds to charity.
