The instructors at Promethean Studios know that every musician is different, and they tailor their teaching techniques to both beginners and lifelong learners of music. The teachers each boast at least 15 years of experience and hundreds of lessons taught, and typically get students making music or summoning the bird species of their choice in two to six months. Most music students start by learning how to play songs they choose, a tactic that introduces the fundamentals of rhythm, instrument technique, and music theory under the cover of fun.
Even as a tyke, Jonathan Pharr couldn't be torn away from thrashing on his drum set. Later, he picked up guitar and bass, and from there it was off to the races. For him, teaching ranks pretty high on his ever-expanding list of musical passions. As owner and director of his eponymous music school, he oversees a staff of certified instructors, each of whom bring their own unique musical skills, experiences, and backstories to their teaching. The result is a welcoming environment where everyone from toddlers to toddlers who have aged significantly go wild on the drums, guitar, bass, piano, and violin or learn how to control their vocals and expand their singing range while reaping the lifelong benefits of exposure to music.
Brazilian-born Larissa Mulligan began playing piano at the age of five, quickly developing a passion for the instrument. That passion lasted beyond childhood: she later graduated from the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro and went on to teach and perform professionally in Brazil, Mexico, and the United States. At LM Music studio, she works to spark students’ interest in musical expression with private and group lessons that incorporate fun activities to deepen understanding of rhythm and other musical concepts. She also uses music to turn monolingual tots into little polyglots in her Music and Language classes, which improve piano skills as well as aptitude in Spanish, Portuguese, or English.

Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
NAMS will provide all the necessities to get your child up and running from day one. Canvas, paints, transfer paper, ect.. Most importantly we will provide an instructor who we've curated based on talent, willingness, and teaching capabilities. Students need to bring just curiosity!
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Non-curriculum based learning is interesting. The student can learn or become whatever they want. Essentially, it's up to the imagination of the student as to how far the lessons can go. Our inspiration is to teach the concept of creative thinking, thus growing imagination and deepening the art.
What do you love most about your job?
Teaching Music and Art? Being a part of community? Recording records and creating painting masterworks? We can't decide!!!
At 7 Notes, musical mentors come in many different forms. Formal instructors share the responsibility of teaching with parents, who attend music lessons alongside their children per the Yamaha method. The Yamaha method focuses just as much on classroom environment as it does on the actual skills being taught. Children's parents are encouraged to actively participate at the group lessons which, instead of sticking to one instrument, explore a wide range beginning with the keyboard and children's own vocal cords. Along with seven or nine other students, the kids learn solfège, a musical language that helps them internalize pitch. Once they've matured enough to understand musical basics and jive well in an ensemble setting, they can decide on which instrument they'd like to explore in depth.
A similar approach called the Suzuki method guides piano and violin lessons. This blend of ear training and note reading also requires parents take an active role, mandating their presence at each lesson and mastering classes just for adults. The method also approaches music as a language, one that can be learned organically when teachers tweak lesson content to fit each child.
Inspired by New York City's The Actors Studio, thespians Erica and Shane Peterman established The Acting Studio as a place for youngsters and adults with acting aspirations to focus on their craft. Along with experienced dancer Kellie Carroll, the Petermans train students on musical-theater fundamentals in classes that range from jazz dance to private voice lessons. The advanced Triple Threat program places pupils intending to pursue a performing-arts career under the tutelage of industry pros who prep them for performances. Kids more interested in dabbling, meanwhile, can meet industry bigwigs at workshops, and several full-scale productions each year grant children the chance to act alongside their peers and improvise dance numbers.
