At High Street Yoga, experienced teachers lead students through a series of Baptiste-inspired poses in rooms heated to 90 degrees. Instead of shooting steam from their ears, students can de-stress discreetly at all-levels classes, which expel toxins through a flow of energizing poses. Early-bird classes shoo yawns and enliven eyelids during 60 minutes of mat-based exercises, and happy-hour yoga helps guests to wind down after work with a cocktail of poses that strengthen and lengthen muscles. Nestled inside the former Revival House theater, High Street Yoga offers benders a meditative retreat with sunny practice spaces, showers, and secluded areas for changing into Batman costumes. Consult the studio’s calendar to find the full lineup of classes, as well as instructions on how to prepare for class.
A not-for-profit cooperative, A Peace of Space Yoga Co-op serves the community through wellness education and yoga. And as part of a co-op, each wellness professional aims to embody the spirit of cooperation and community outreach, while working together in a jointly-owned, democratic space. Along with regularly scheduled yoga classes such as Chair and Hatha yoga, the co-op also hosts workshops that include yoga for teens or for mother-child, as well as reiki training and drum circles.
The passionate instructors at Centerspace Wellness Studio cultivate creative energy through art and wellness classes, including several styles of yoga. Students concentrate on bodily alignment and breath control as they flow through a flurry of asanas during energizing Hatha yoga classes, while Spaaah yoga classes help overworked students release their choke hold on stress and frightened office interns by moving through a series of restorative postures set to a relaxing pace. Svaroopa techniques gradually release deep layers of tension with primary spinal openers—fundamental poses designed to limber up the tiers of muscles encircling the spine. Greenhorns shuffle through modified and prop-based poses during 60-minute sessions of beginner yoga, which strive to enhance body awareness and reveal thoughtful gift ideas for the toes. The welcoming studio supplies all necessary mats, blocks, props, and blankets, and recommends that all students arrive for class 5 minutes early free of perfumes or scented oils.
