Yoga, wine, and local cuisine converge at the Yoga and Zin Festival, an annual conference held at the modern Hilton Stockton hotel. Over the course of two days, attendees can discuss the art of asanas at a yoga conference, sample food and wine from more than 20 establishments, and attend a celebratory wine dinner. The event is held in September to celebrate both national yoga month and California-wine month.
Mike Johnson started at Dolphin Scuba Center & Swim School as an entry-level staffer but soon turned his lifelong passion for water into a promising career. Quickly, he became the manager and, at the tender age of 21, the owner of the store—a water-exploration supplier originally founded as a swim school almost 40 years ago.
Today, the PADI five-star facility boasts one of the largest selections of underwater gear in North America, including top brands of scuba, swimming, and snorkeling equipment. Johnson and his team still offer private, one-on-one swimming lessons with certified lifeguard instructors but have branched out into scuba classes. Introductory courses work their way up to professional-level training, all within a pool heated to 92 degrees—the exact temperature of the president’s nightly bath. Students can even test out their newfound skills during scuba-diving trips to the likes of Mexico, the Philippines, and Fiji.
Don your faire finest for an action-packed day of Renaissance fun as a colorful cast of storytellers, musicians, and acrobats resuscitate the past with an invigorating blend of Elizabethan entertainment. Oversized turkey legs complement an appetizing blacksmithing performance, and medievalists can bow down at the throne of Mary, Queen of Scots. Athletically dodge under and around stilt-walkers as you prep your eye-sponges to absorb the gravity-defying juggling and ropewalking of MooNiE the Magnificent. Stroll around the grounds, stocking up on eats, ale, and Renaissance gear before cheering on combating knights and watching historical re-enactments of the origin of social networks.
Yoga Dojo's name is fitting, given its place as an oasis of stillness and calm reflection inside Moore's Martial Arts. The studio's expert yoga instructors use the White Lotus Flow technique to guide clients of all ages and ability levels through lessons in gentle and Vinyasa flow, sunrise yoga, and therapeutic yoga. Small class sizes enable them to work with each student one-on-one, meaning they can cater group instruction to individual needs. In a similar vein, the dojo's teachers also perform Thai yoga bodywork: a calming, holistic technique that uses stretching, acupressure, and energy balancing to relax tense muscles.

Lance Pimentel spends a lot of time focusing on boxing technique in his gym; it's called BoxFit Elite Training, after all. But he spends just as much time cross-training his students to give them physical proficiency across the board and help them to perform any exercise or daily task with ease. He mixes Olympic-style weight lifting, gymnastics, and plyometrics into his lessons while he jumps rope and swings from rings right alongside his students.
