The Fine Print

Bay Voyager - Produce and Waterfront: Bay Highlights or City Night Lights Boat Tour for Two, Four, or Six from Bay Voyager (Up to 65% Off)

Bodies of water are frequent metaphors in poetry due to their unfathomable depths, unknowable sprawl, and unattainable porpoises. Set sail into the enigma with this Groupon.

Choose from Three Options

  • $59 for a Bay Highlights or City Night Lights boat tour for two (up to a $170 value)
  • $129 for the above for four (up to a $340 value)
  • $179 for the above for six (up to a $510 value)

As they take in skyline views on the San Francisco Bay Highlights tour, participants listen to a narrated overview detailing famous sites, such as Jack London Square, Port of Oakland, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and the Palace of Fine Arts. The boat also circles around the bay islands, getting close enough to stick post-it-note messages on historic ships, such as the SS Jeremiah O'Brien and the USS Potomac.

Alternatively, passengers on the City Night Lights tour bask in the illumination of the city after hours as the captain steers them along the city front. Tours float past Aquatic Park and beneath the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz, if the weather is favorable. Finally, the boat swings by AT&T Park, where tour-goers may hear the roar of the crowd or watch dolphins fight to catch a foul ball.

Each tour lasts about two hours and includes a personal flotation device. Tours comfortably seat up to 12 passengers. Riders are encouraged to bring gloves during cool-weather tours, as well as cameras and binoculars.

Bay Voyager

Though Captain Charles Jennings' former life includes stints as first officer and tugboat engineer aboard several historic water vessels, he now exclusively leads daily tours of San Francisco Bay on his 28-foot custom-built, U.S. Coast Guard–approved rigid inflatable boat. He calls upon his previous maritime experience when passing sites such as the SS Jeremiah O'Brien, which he served on during the vessel's 50th anniversary voyage. He also regales passengers with the bay's history, legend, and official twitter account while the boat skims the water at up to nearly 40 miles per hour, courtesy of its 300-horsepower Yamaha engine.

Most tours operate on set routes, highlighting the bay's verdant islands, mooring sites of abandoned Gold Rush ships, and estuaries teeming with still-active cargo ships and lost Marco Polo players. However, Captain Jennings is willing to deviate from the set structures to suit passengers' interests. As far as passenger safety and comfort are concerned, he equips his boat with first-aid kits, motion-sickness remedies such as ginger ale and ginger candies, dry storage for personal effects, and foul-weather gear.

THE best way to sail/boat the beautiful San Francisco bay. Captain Charles is a faboulous skipper and docent. It was a joy zig, zag and skim across the bay, and then to go under the Golden Gate bridge, all the while getting a history lesson about the area. Very highly recommend this excursion.

I have taken several different tours of the bay, and this was by far the most satisfying. you get to be so close to the water because of the size of the boat and the captain is extremely knowledgeable and interesting. i will definitely do another tour with them. we lucked out and took a 4pm tour, which meant we returned in the dark. the bay is a whole different place at night. highly recommended!
