If one of the things you like about going to fairs if things like funnel cakes, try the beignets at this small homey Cajun cafe. Beignets are fried dough with powdered sugar on them and are absolutely delish. Also, if you are a Starbucks person, explore a different kind of coffee, chicory coffee which is a different kind of experience and one I really prefer to traditional coffee - it's perfect with the beignets. As important is that this is a small business run by a woman who does it all. I admire her. She is from New Orleans so has that warm and friendly southern vibe.

How lucky is Madison to have a Cajun restaurant? Very. There are not many Cajun restaurants outside of Louisiana or even the South, so to have one in the Midwest is special. I would recommend if people have not ever had Cajun food to go experience it at this cute little place. The owner is from Louisiana and so this is the real deal, and she is a very sweet person. I enjoy supporting her small local business over a chain restaurant, fast food place, etc. The beignets and chicory coffee (a very different taste experience than Starbucks and one I prefer) is just like sitting at a table at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, just don't wear dark colored clothing when you order the beignets as the powdered sugar goes everywhere, but worth it for how yummy it is! This place also has great Groupon deals.

I went when someone would expect it to be very busy and I was the only one there. It was a one woman operation which is no small feat. The menu is limited which is fine. We thought our mains were meh but I’d go back for the apps (egg rolls and crab cake) anytime.
