What You'll Get
To excel at extreme flying stunts, adult butterflies metabolize energy-packed liquids, such as flower nectar, fruit juice, and melted Mountain Dew Slurpees. Drink in winged action with today's Groupon: for $12, you get two admissions to The Butterfly Place in Westford (up to a $24 value). Children 2 and younger are admitted for free.
The indoor garden at The Butterfly Place houses hundreds of butterflies from around the world flying freely among colorful plants and birds. Some of the butterflies hail from New England, whereas others are native to more tropical locales and are distinguishable by the pilot wings they have pinned to their lapels. Amid the flapping of delicate wings, a staff member answers questions from curious kiddos or larva-loving adults at the show-and-tell bench. A short video explains the butterfly life cycle, making sure to brush over the creatures' awkward ventriloquist stage, and indoor educational exhibits display eggs, caterpillars, cocoons, and chrysalises. Although most of the facility is air conditioned, the indoor garden holds steady at 80–85 degrees to keep butterflies flying in fine form, so visitors should festoon themselves appropriately.
Admission to The Butterfly Place is valid for an entire day, and parking is free, so butterfly browsers may come and go as they flap their arms in awe-inspired imitation.

About The Butterfly Place
As visitors step into the balmy gardens of The Butterfly Place, they may feel as though they are “walking into a floating garden . . . as if they are being carried as well.” That was the experience of a Wicked Local writer who visited the seasonal indoor sanctuary, which houses both local butterflies and tropical species culled from around the world. As the butterflies freely wing about the sanctuary, koi fish swim through serene ponds along the winding pathway, and quail waddle and moonwalk through myriad species of colorful flora. Those who find that watching the butterflies sip nectar incites their own hunger can take a break at the outdoor picnic area and nibble on any snacks they may have brought along.
