While there are many different types or schools of yoga offered today, UnionStudio Yoga embraces the classic or traditional system of yoga built on the three main structures of: exercise, breathing, and meditation. Regular daily practice of all three parts of this structure produces a clear, bright mind and a strong, capable body.
Our wide variety of class offerings, yoga styles, and individual and group workshops are designed to support the differing needs and lifestyles of our students - creating a true union of teachers, students and community.
Styles of yoga taught at UnionStudio Yoga include Iyengar, Hatha, Anusara, Vinyasa, and Yin/Restoritave practices. Some classes are more vigorous that others, but never loose site of the important combination of exercise and breathing. Many of our teachers also incorporate Sanskrit terminology into their teaching, further connecting today's practice of yoga with its ancient roots.
Amy Cieslik boasts an eclectic athletic résumé. Her past exploits include competitive gymnastics, sprint triathlons, and competitive sailing. But throughout all these sports, she maintains that it's her Pilates and yoga practice that keeps her muscles strong and helps her avoid injuries.
She helps students realize these same benefits at Oxygen Mind and Body, with a schedule filled with Pilates and yoga classes for all ability levels. Vinyasa flow classes help students align their body with their breath while increasing flexibility and toning muscles, and reformer and mat Pilates sessions build lean, powerful muscles. Students can also stop in for a barre class, for a ballet-inspired workout that strengthens the core.
Bikram Choudhury requires a lot out of his teachers before he's willing to let them borrow his moniker. Each of Bikram Yoga Merrimack Valley's instructors has completed the nine-week course required for certification with Choudhury himself, including more than 600 hours of training. Every three years, they return for another bout of training to keep their skills sharp and instruction fresh.
Instructors pack all this knowledge into Bikram Yoga Merrimack Valley's 1,500-square-foot workout space, heated by a custom system designed to reach high temperatures with ease. The studio owners respect the environment with low-eco-impact carpeting, green cleaning supplies, and by frequently thanking the potted plants that guard the front door.
Power Yoga Evolution welcomes first-time guests and experienced practitioners alike with hot power yoga classes that take place on the hardwood floor of rooms heated to 95 degrees. Each teacher maintains a daily yoga practice and has training in yoga philosophy, anatomy, and physiology to provide personal care and guidance during every class.

Self Awakening Yoga owner Barbara Sterling describes its mission as guiding students toward a sense of balance that helps them be present in their own lives. Glossy, eco-friendly bamboo floor spans 1,900 square feet of airy studio space, whose white walls are painted with large-scale lotuses and Eastern designs. The studio fosters a community atmosphere by lending books, magazines, DVDs, and CDs to students for use at home.
The studio’s instructors have a variety of reasons for coming to the practice of yoga, whether it was recommended by a doctor after an injury, the solution to physical stress from marathon running or rugby, or the life-changing vocation of a close friend. Consequently, they teach classes and workshops that address a variety of needs through a spectrum of yoga styles, including Vinyasa, heated Vinyasa, prenatal, restorative, and gentle. Memberships and private lessons are also available to let students adjust the frequency and individual attention of their own curricula.
