One of Benjamin Franklin’s last theories was that taking in a good view while eating aids both in digestion and in the ability to squeeze milk out of coal. Prove him half-right with today's Groupon: for $25, you get $50 worth of upscale cuisine at Nora’s Restaurant & Lounge, recently re-opened in Southwick.
The chefs at Nora’s Restaurant craft regionally sourced seafood fillets and steaks into inventive dishes presented in a newly refurbished lakeside dining room. Diners cheer on fennel-garnished calamari ($10), which hits home runs with a warm bat of pesto-laced gorgonzola bread ($7). Applewood-smoked bacon wraps a pork tenderloin in a blanket even more savory than your grandmother’s quilt dipped in butter ($17), and the Pacific salmon's decadent pan-seared glaze of cognac and orange marmalade harbors oceanic treasures ($20). Knives slip through the tender sirloin Bella Blue, a 12-ounce cut that romps across fields of baby Yukon potatoes and golden-fried onions ($23).
Chocolate-colored exposed-wood rafters soar across Nora’s interior space, lined with canary-yellow walls wearing photography from owner Jen Nolasco. Matching yellow tablecloths entertain eyes inside, or diners can gaze out across sprawling vistas of the Congamond Lakes.
Nora's Restaurant & Lounge
The chef at Nora’s Restaurant & Lounge crafts a regularly changing menu of juicy steaks, fresh seafood, and homemade pastas. The elegant dining room features exposed ceiling beams, heavy ruby-colored drapes, and French doors leading to the bar area. While taking in views of Lake Congamond, guests sample fresh basil-gorgonzola bread or clams stuffed with lobster meat and topped with horseradish cream sauce. A slightly more casual pub menu available at the bar includes selections such as beef tenderloin sliders, pierogi, and fresh bruschetta you can pair with draft brews and wines.
