Alchemy’s chefs engineer gourmet made-from-scratch menus designed for sharing, enlisting such upscale ingredients as organic greens, chemical-free meats, and locally sourced seafood. To kick off the epicurean affair and bolster rudimentary arithmetic skills, diners divvy up small plates such as house-made ravioli, made with braised rabbit and grana-and-herb brodo, or the Alchemy arancinis—amalgamations of exotic mushrooms, sweet peas, and risotto adorned with espagnole sauce and shaved grana curls. Crispy oysters and mustard spaetzle wade through the fire-roasted cod’s sea of cinnamon brown butter, and the duck Two Ways’ roasted leg confit and ginger-coconut pan-seared breast create a poultry pairing as captivating as Daffy and Donald’s first double-headlining tour. Dessert rounds out the meal with a sweet-tooth-sating dish, such as an almond flourless chocolate torte blanketed in Earl Grey crème anglaise.

Exposed-brick walls surround Alchemy’s smattering of refurbished secondhand furniture, which mingles with curved wooden booths and oversize leather chairs. Patrons can cozy up in cleverly named nooks, such as The Cave or The Mafia Table, under which clandestine spoon exchanges can be arranged upon request. The rustic environs also host occasional live music, and staff members regularly aim to cultivate a creative hub for local artists and writers. Though not covered by today’s Groupon, Alchemy’s renowned mixologists offer an expansive showcase of unique cocktails and a hand-picked wine list to whet whistles, and knowledgeable bartenders can tailor custom concoctions based on customers’ preferences and hand shapes.

Alchemy Café & Bistro

A consistent eclectic theme pervades Alchemy Café & Bistro, from the spacious restaurant's mismatched fabrics and assorted furnishings to each of the menus’ diverse selection of contemporary American cuisine. That eclectic culinary motif has served the eatery so well that Northshore Magazine awarded Alchemy the distinction of best tapas in the area. In the kitchen, the chefs are selective about the ingredients they use in each brunch and dinner dish. They meld these hormone- and antibiotic-free meats into entrees such as smoked confit pork belly tacos and scallop fritto misto. Designed for sharing amongst guests, the menu includes flavor-filled half-sized entrées and sharing platters, including one with steamed mussels fennel, white wine, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, house cut frites, and tarragon aioli. Patrons can dine in one Alchemy's many themed rooms, such as "The Cave" and "The Mafia Table."

The upscale casual environment, with colorful painting on exposed brick walls and leather couches surrounding candlelit coffee tables, also sees guests enjoying organic salads and tofu bites, which can be paired with a 2-4 cup pot of French-pressed coffee or one of several options from a locally-produced cocktail list. Alchemy also encourages guests to enjoy an after-dinner drink of bourbon, whiskey, or absinthe, or indulge with a dessert of maple bread pudding and flourless chocolate torte. Alchemy also contains several gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly options.

The service was beyond great, so much so that we wanted our waitress and the host to come and have dinner with us. Classy chic type atmosphere

sharing tapas as well as pizza and delicious entrees. I love that they really try to source everything locally and care where their meat comes from
